Hope for Kenya Recap

The past few weeks have been quite eventful at Crossfit Renaissance. They had a great turnout at CFR Night Out in mid-February which was held at Interstate Drafthouse - thanks to the wonderful Meg Fonash who bartends there and helped organize the get together. Hopefully she didn't give out TOO many free drinks :) ...it looks like the next CFR Night Out is Saturday, March 30? Stay tuned.

Then there was the first CFR Fundraiser on March 2 - Hope for Kenya. A number of people from CFR and other Crossfit organizations came out to support Joyce and the children in Kenya. It started out with the WOD - AMRAP in 12 minutes of: 50 squats, 30 push-ups, 15 pull-ups. Three rounds of participants completed the WOD and the fourth round was Bill & Ray, who dominated and made the workout look easy. Pics below are from the fundraiser. WARNING - There's lots!! Thanks to Carrie Thomson for the pictures.

Warming up for the WOD

Time for squats, push-ups and pull-ups!

It was time to eat and I don't think there was one person who did not fill their plate. With all the delicious food options, including many Paleo items, how could you not? From blueberry pulled pork (!!!), plantains, bacon-wrapped weiners - yup, collard greens, chili, gluten-free brownies, paleo chocolate chip cookies and much more, everyone was satisfied and full!

Games and raffles followed, and to everyone's pleasure, Bill completed 301 burpees! My body is hurting just thinking about it. One of his personal training clients threw in another $40 to make it more interesting.

Bill tired??

I don't think so

It was a great day for everyone involved and an outstanding $3,700 was raised!! Joyce, Bill and the whole CFR family thank you. If you weren't able to make it or if you want to donate more money to this worthy cause, you can do so by clicking here.

This is the first of many posts i'll be sharing with all of you. Time to keep this blog going! I'll be posting about the events and activities going on at CFR, as well as random information such as recipes of the day (Paleo of course), the best times of each day and if any PR's were set, etc. A little of everything. If any of you have something to share, please do! You can reach me by email at jshannon37@gmail.com or by leaving a comment below.
